EVIDENCE

AI Enhances Anatomical Recognition in PLND/LLND

A multicenter study conducted in collaboration with the National Cancer Center Hospital East and other institutions evaluated surgeons' recognition performance with and without AI assistance.

Video-based assessment tasks were created using laparoscopic and robot-assisted pelvic and lateral pelvic lymph node dissection procedures collected from institutions across Japan. A total of 36 surgeons participated in the study. Recognition sensitivity for each anatomical structure was compared between surgeons working independently and surgeons assisted by AI-generated visual highlighting.

The results demonstrated that AI assistance significantly improved both sensitivity and specificity compared with surgeon assessment alone, supporting the role of AI in enhancing intraoperative anatomical recognition.
